Event: Ride to Great Outdoors
Details:9 Bikes, 11 members and 2 guest.
Hopefully we did not leave anyone at the dealership since the times where different on the weekly update and the website. We waited until 9:30 to leave since that was the meet time on the website.
Started out at OPD with overcast skies and light rain and it continued for most of the first leg with a couple breaks and a couple of heavier spots. For the most part we did not get very wet. After the rest stop we did not have any rain. Very little sunshine and the overcast skies and rain kept the temperatures down. As usual with this place, the service and food was good and our waitress did a good job as well getting all 13 people taken care of. All of the food came out together.

Event: Ride to Gator Joe’s
Details:Another great day for riding, in spite of the weatherman’s forecast of doom, gloom, and thunderstorms. 11 members on 10 bikes rode the back roads of the Ocala National Forest on our way to Oklawaha, FL, home of the world famous Gator Joe’s. We managed to beat the crowd and had excellent parking. Even took a photo with the gator. Had lunch out on the deck and then most of us returned the way we came. I think everyone should have been able to get home before the afternoon storm rolled in. For the adventurous few who made this journey, well done! For the rest, you really missed out on some good riding on a great day with some excellent folks. Maybe next time.

The roadkill roundup was won by Glenn and Donna. The bike wash was won by Glenn and Donna. The Hot dog bite was won by Steve and Debra. We had 30 of the 41 people paid come and eat our delicious meal catered by Beach Road Chicken. Thank you Lori Morris for the delicious banana pudding for dessert. Thanks to everyone for the cleanup. Details:The ride to Aunt Catfish on the River had 4 bikes and 4 people. We were able to get out of town with only a minor sprinkle. We had a great lunch with good friends.
Date: May 31
Event: Ride to Houligan’s
Details: The temperature was around 90 with an overcast sky. The ride itself was uneventful thru Green Cove Springs… Then a vulture decided to fly out in front of our fearless Road Captain – who narrowly missed bird lunch! No more excitement until we left Palatka going east on 100. After setting up a comfortable ride distance behind a pickup pulling an old boat we noticed the road ahead of the vehicle looked blocked by an 18 wheeler. After stopping the pack, the group maneuvered around the crawl of onlookers with inches to spare around some parked cars.
Now we were on our way right? NO! Up ahead was a very slow moving VERY LARGE farm tractor taking up the shoulder and half our lane. So, when I got to it
we just went around it as West bound traffic permitted. If that wasn’t enough it started to rain 15 miles from Houligans so we pulled over and those that had them donned rain jackets and some pants. We got a bit wet down I-95 but managed to have a delicious lunch at Houligans while watching the radar on the TVs
around the restaurant. All in All a good ride with great people!

Event: Ride to Apalachicola Seafood Grill
Details: Thanks to the 11 members and 4 visitors that participated in the 228 mile ride to Apalachicola Seafood Grill on Saturday, May 10th. It was perfect weather with some clouds and sun along with great temperatures generally in the 70’s touching in the 80’s. During our travels on I-10 we had one car roll slowly past the group taking pictures of the riders. We had some waves from folks we passed and enjoyed rolling down the road with such a large group!
The other very significant noteworthy recognition for this ride was it was the longest single day ride that OPHOG has undertaken to date! Congratulations to all that made this a very successful and safe ride for all!!! We look forward to many more!
Thanks from RC Mark Stevens & TG Steve Lee
